Building Your Fundraising Future: Essential Skills to Improve Yourself and Grow Your Organization

Professional Advancement Half Day Symposium

Join us on Wednesday, October 23rd for a half-day of workshops that offer critical tools, skills, and insights for new or early career fundraisers. You’ll walk away with new connections and new knowledge – including how to develop impact narratives through leveraging data and storytelling, how to discover and develop your leadership style, and how to effectively represent yourself and your organization.

SPEAKERS:

Nicole Carta
Founder and Principal, Cultivate: Good

Nicole Carta is founder and principal of Cultivate:Good a social impact consulting firm. She has 20+ years of experience raising resources, creating effective partnerships, and building organizations. For ten years, she led the private partnership teams at the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development and United Nations Population Fund. She has built women’s health and sustainable agriculture collaborations among companies and governments, including co-creating the Smallholder and Agri-SME Finance and Investment Network (SAFIN) and the Food Action Alliance at the World Economic Forum. In 2003, Nicole co-founded and ran a non-profit for ten years supporting local community leaders in Uganda and Tanzania in their work to provide health and education to children. Most recently, Nicole led the public-private partnership office for New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services, overseeing a team that raised $45 million in private support for children and families. Nicole is an adjunct professor at the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University in New York and earned her MBA from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. 
 

Lauren Elicks McCort
Chief Program Officer, Youth INC (Improving Nonprofits for Children)

Lauren Elicks McCort (she/her) is the Chief Program Officer at Youth INC, where she leads capacity-building initiatives for over 85 nonprofit organizations. With a decade of experience in nonprofit management, she excels in developing strategic programs that enhance organizational effectiveness, data and learning, and promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Lauren’s approach to philanthropy transformed Youth INC’s grantmaking process, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, by launching the COVID-19 Response & Recovery Fund. She also introduced the Metrics Program, democratizing access to data and enabling nonprofits to make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement. Under her leadership, the number of nonprofit organizations in Youth INC’s Partner Network has more than doubled, board placements have tripled, and Youth INC’s coaching programs now include strategic planning, operational effectiveness, leadership development, and change management.

Lauren holds a deep commitment to bringing a collaborative spirit organizational development work, engaging with nonprofit leaders to co-create solutions and drive impactful change. 
 

Kirkley Strand
Chief Advancement Officer, The Door

In her role as The Door’s Chief Advancement Officer, Kirkley works closely with the board of directors and leadership to grow and diversify revenue sources and strengthen and expand partnerships and communications to advance the organization’s mission. Kirkley began her nonprofit career at The Door and University Settlement, and prior to rejoining the organization in 2024, she oversaw development and communications for The New York Foundling and Storefront Academy (formerly The Children’s Storefront), and held various roles with other New York-based education and social service organizations. Kirkley began her career as a fourth-grade teacher in the Bronx. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College and earned a master’s degree in education from Mercy College.
